It’s not just The Cobb and The French Lieutenant’s woman… Lyme Regis is also famed for the Cobb Ghoul and the Royal Lion’s eerie cloud of ectoplasm!
Welcome to Lyme Regis Haunts: eerie tales from history and other often untold stories of spooky events and hauntings in our charming coastal town. With its winding streets, ancient buildings and dramatic coastline, Lyme has long been the backdrop for tales of ghosts and the unexplained. While many of these stories are well known and written into the annals of Dorset history, much more personal encounters lie just beneath the surface of our town.
“There is so much more to our town buried beneath the surface.
Often locked away in unshared stories”

Here we revisit the famous hauntings that have captured the imaginations of locals and visitors alike but also to delve deeper into hushed family stories and personal encounters. The lesser-known tales.Every home, every street, and every corner of Lyme Regis has its own secret history, sometimes only shared when multi-generational families get together so the older folk can tell the stories they heard when children. Join us as we bring to light the stories that have been tucked away in family histories, waiting to be discovered. These personal stories include the remarkable tale of the Timber Hill Girl, a ghost who reportedly haunts the area where the Treetops Nursing Home used to sit on Overton Close, Timber Hill. This tale has recently (and dramatically) been linked with the history of Mary Anning, perhaps Lyme Regis’s most famous historical figure. All these tales, where local people tell of their odd experiences and sightings add a new rich layer to our supernatural tapestry.
The site is relatively new but will expand a lot as we fill out the photos and stories that come in.
Wishing you a spooky day on the Jurassic Coast!
